Version 0.5
out! I'll just copy from the ingame changelog here:
- nightmare encounter now has sex scene (currently missing snake version; that'll be patched in, uh, tomorrow probably)
- mine and library zones have their encounter placement tweaked so that you can actually explore inside them
- new swamp thicket location
- cave locations now have a tiny mini-dungeon inside them
- new zombie encounters (including a shop) at skull locations
- some new minor variations of certain monster types
Sorry for the late update, I was planning on finishing things up Saturday but then Saturday came around and I ended up runing a bunch of errands for most of the day.
So, going from here, I'm gonna give myself a week to work on misc. stuff -- bugfixes, brainstorming, structural work, etc, and then launch the next poll (new TF nodes) with the next status post.
Things I'll be working on in addition to new TF nodes: balancing combat, expanding combat somewhat, making a lot more small locations that might have an NPC / several NPCs at them, standardizing NPC stuff so that they all might have tattoo/piercing/weird limb options. I'm trying to flesh out gameplay content a little now, so expect every update to have a few small locations with some stuff to do at them.
I'm considering doing some procedural work to flesh out the encounters a little more -- names, for one, and some backstory/personality options. I'm not sure how long it'll be before any of that is ready to put into the game proper.
I've also been wanting to flesh out enough variations so that a given encounter will be noticably unique. Things like... build, skintone, hairstyles, markings like tattoos or piercings, and so forth and so on. But I'm not sure how far I want to go down that road -- the very first design doc for this called for NPCs to have the same kind of node-based body tree as PCs, and when I first started making encounters I decided that would be too much work (there would have to be like, dozens of special nodes for NPC use, and then I'd probably have to make them PC-accessible and factor them into sex scenes), but now that I'm wanting to add lots of little details it would be nice if I could work on both PC details and NPC details using the same system. Plus, I did some work on randomly-generating lesser demons, and that ended up being nearly randomly building PC node trees by another name... basically, I'll mess around with that more and see if I stumble across any interesting results worth putting into the game.
Anyway so that's the state of hell game work right now! See you in a week.
Is there ever gonna be a downloadable offline version?
@bob
not for the near future, at least. events and pc descriptions are processed on the server side, so people would have to run a local server instance, which would mean distributing all the source code + a webserver. it's kind of a mess. (going open-source is also the $1,400/m tier on the patreon, but seeing how it's been sitting at a tenth of that for the past six months it'll be a while.)
Ok so even if I've been here for a bit (not from the start but from somewhere around 0.3 or 0.4) there is something I don't get. Will there be a final goal to the game once it's complete or not? Or maybe it will be decided as it progress? Dang I'm confused here... Also, thanks for providing us with save files. I mean yeah you putted save files a few updates ago but still I wanted to thank you about that and don't give up. I'm rooting for you.
@tomato
i have a general content and mechanics outline, but it's both really huge and pretty vague in certain spots, so there's a lot of flex room. the development polls guide what gets done in what order, and people's feedback does influence what get worked on too -- for example, one of the upcoming things in the next big update is a new interface for editing the PC's body, and that's mostly because basically everybody has mentioned that the current interface is really weird and unintuitive. plus, i still need to work on expanding the event-running code so that it can support bigger, more interactive and interconnected quest-type events, so for the time being i'm mostly just noodling around fleshing out smaller systems. so there is an overall goal, it's just there's a lot of flex room about details and the order things get added.
also hey thanks! the game is definitely still a work in progress, and i plan on keeping on fixing it up.
hi hello!! i've had this in my bookmarks for like months but i just found it again, dunno what's up with that. but anyways this is really good!!! it's super cool looking from what i've seen and everything! awesome job!! i have a question though? i guess it's not really related to the update but i'm kinda confused how to be...not a shapeless orb anymore? i saw you could like buy things and i did that, but i can't figure out how to do anything with them? i'm so sorry if this is an inconvenience but idk where else to ask...also sorry if it's a dumb question lol
nevermind!!!!!!!! i totally figured it out omg
I'm waiting for piercings, tattoos and parasites :D . I love your game, I think your game will be the best among the likes. Soon there will be money and I'll probably support you :D .
p.s. Stellar doesn't work.
Hi, good job on the update. I'm very glad that you're doing all this for us. Somewhat a minor issue but I just can't seem to find the necessary componenta to craft the stellar body trait (or quality?). Any idea on where I should go to find them?
yeah, [stellar] is currently unimplemented and (maybe?) unreachable. you can get the orrery parts from mines now, but i don't _think_ there's any legit way to get the machine parts needed. it's entirely possible i've just forgotten adding them somewhere, though. probably i shouldn't have teased people with unreachable content in that way, though :V
thought there wasn't gonna be any sounding content for a while! fuck, that nightmare scene was hot.
